It is with great enthusiasm to invite you to join us for the 2024 United Negro College Fund (UNCF) Leadership Luncheon on Thursday, June 13, 2024, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Presented by MetroHealth, in collaboration with the City Club of Cleveland and the 11th Annual Destination HBCU Send-OFF, this charitable event will be held at the downtown Cleveland Huntington Convention Center, located at 300 Lakeside Avenue.
This year, UNCF celebrates its 80th Anniversary and has been the nation’s largest guiding light in propelling our nation’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and underrepresented students forward. Join Mistress of Ceremonies Danita Harris, City Club CEO Dan Moulthrop, and our keynote speaker Steve Phillips, a national political leader, columnist, and bestselling author for an inspiring afternoon of networking and fundraising. Steve is the author of The New York Times bestseller Brown Is the New White: How the Demographic Revolution Has Created a New American Majority and the newly released national bestselling book How We Win the Civil War: Securing a Multiracial Democracy and Ending White Supremacy for Good. We celebrate because UNCF awards more than 12,000 scholarships worth more than $70 million and financially supports 37 HBCUs annually.
We celebrate because with UNCF support, HBCUs educate and support the largest number of the nation’s Black professionals producing 80% of Black judges, 75% of Black officers in the armed forces, 50% of Black doctors, 50% of Black lawyers, 40% of all Black engineers and 40% of Black members of Congress.
Come join the celebration with Cleveland’s corporate, community, and civic leaders along with clergy, HBCU alumni, scholars and parents, all united by the common goal of nurturing and advancing the potential of tomorrow’s leaders. Your attendance at the 2024 UNCF Leadership Luncheon will be a shared investment in the continuous effort to foster a stronger, more inclusive Cleveland community by enhancing educational opportunities for underrepresented students in our region.
The Annual UNCF Chicago Gala is our premier fundraising gala and major social event focusing on raising awareness of the need and benefits of a college education, the students UNCF serves and the contributions of historically black colleges and universities. This informative and fun-filled evening supports UNCF’s mission of investing in the future of the young men and women that we serve by helping them get to and through college.

This year, UNCF is celebrating its proud 80-year legacy as the largest scholarship provider for students of color. On July 13, 2024, UNCF New Jersey will host its annual Masked Ball and celebrate UNCF’s 80th Anniversary. This anniversary will highlight UNCF’s impact over the last eight decades and our work to transform HBCUs and the students we serve.
As UNCF continues to pave the way for the future, our 80th anniversary theme, Honoring the Legacy, Transforming Our Future, captures the true essence of UNCF’s tremendous success. Ensuring equal access to education and creating opportunities for students who may have otherwise been overlooked, remains at the core of our mission. UNCF initiatives have enabled more than 500,000 students to achieve college degrees from UNCF-affiliated HBCUs, with an annual increase of approximately 8,000 graduates. In the 2022-23 academic year, UNCF distributed $68 million in scholarships to over 11,000 students; in New Jersey 274 scholarships totaling $1.1 million were awarded to 204 New Jersey residents attending member colleges and universities and other schools across the country. These accomplishments underscore the organization’s dedication to fostering educational opportunities.
Our annual Masked Ball is a signature fundraising event in support of students attending UNCF-member colleges and universities and nearly 1,100 other colleges across America. It is a great opportunity to invest in Better Futures. Funds raised will help UNCF ensure that more young people with limited financial resources continue to have a pathway to attend and graduate from college.
The UNCF Detroit Walk for Education is a broad-based community fundraising event in which you can recruit family members, friends, co-workers, neighbors, etc. to participate in this non-competitive Walk to raise much needed unrestricted funds for UNCF as well as provide necessary support for our students and schools and raise awareness about our 37 member institutions and HBCUs. The only competition is for the top fundraising Team Captain Prizes, which goes to the team captains based upon the amount of funds raised first in each category.
Join us on at Belle Isle State Park (near the Casino) to help us reach our fundraising goal of $600,000 and help kids get to and successfully through college. We will work our bodies with a 5K (3.1 mile) walk around beautiful Belle Isle and refresh our spirit with family, friends, fellowship and good food on a beautiful summer day.
